The American Society of Clinical Oncology has launched a new website, showing forty years of research for cancer treatment. The site provides the history of advances against major types of cancer and advances in patient care, from cancer therapies to patient quality of life. ASCO's website launch marks the 40th anniversary of the National Cancer Act of 1971, which supported major new investments in cancer research. To see the website, please visit cancerprogress.net.

Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, experts from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and its clinical partner, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, are offering a series of weekly research-based tip sheets regarding a variety of topics related to breast cancer, including breast cancer prevention, screening and early detection, treatment and survivorship.  

Today's tip sheet is "10 Tips for Breast Cancer Patients During Treatment", provided by Julie Gralow, M.D.  Dr. Gralow is the Director of Breast Medical Oncology at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.  The site also provides links to the prior weeks tip sheets as well.  

Members of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) created a new web site last fall for helping cancer patients and their families understand the available radiotherapy treatment options.  The site includes treatment information, statistics, dictionary of radiation therapy terms, as well as quick links for discovering additional detail.  For example, the site notes that nearly 1.5 million Americans will learn they have cancer this year and that 2/3rds of all cancer is treated with radiation. 

The site is called RTAnswers.org and looks to be a great resource for the radiation therapy community.
